So our discussion for today will be all about the covid-19 virus otherwise known as the corona virus. As we all know, this respiratory disease is ravaging the world right now and a lot of families have been affected and it’s been a devastating time for the whole world but we pray to see the end of this virus and to come out standing tall.
We also pray for the repose of the lives that we have lost along the way and that God will heal the hearts of any family who must have lost a loved to this virus.
Let’s highlight some important facts for easy understanding:
1. It’s a respiratory disease,
2. It is transmitted by contact, droplets and fomites (are secondary route of exposure which includes objects or materials which are likely to carry infection, such as clothes, utensils, and furniture),
3. Both children and adults can be infected but the aged and those with underlying conditions stand the risk of severe infection,
4. The median incubation period and serial interval for the virus is 7-14day
5. 80% of infections are mild or asymptomatic(a person who is not showing any signs), 15% are severe infection, requiring oxygen and 5% are critical infections, requiring ventilation
6. Mortality rate is high,
7. Since it’s a novel virus, there is no known cure but rather therapeutics currently in clinical trials and more than 20 vaccines in development and,
8. Symptoms include fever, dry cough, and tiredness and others such as nasal congestion, sore throat etc,
This is a new virus we all are fighting with globally and we must try to practice all the preventive measures etiquette and guidelines which includes and not limited to the following,
1. The hand hygiene should be part of our daily routine which includes washing our hands thoroughly with soap/handwash and water,
2. Your alcohol based hand sanitizers should always be with you,
3. Practice respiratory hygiene at all times which includes never coughing or sneezing on your palms rather into the pocket of your elbow or into a tissue and then dispose properly,
4. Always wear a face mask if you must step out of your house. If you are using the surgical mask, dispose immediately after use and never reuse for it is known as non-reusable mask,
5. Practice social distancing which should be at least 1 meter between you and others
6.If you mistakenly come in contact with an infected person and showing or not showing any symptoms, self- isolate or self-quarantine yourself and all the necessary agency or task force that are in charge of evacuating the infected,
7. Avoid going into crowded places,
8. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
9. Avoid touching, shaking of hands or hugs, it is hard but it’s just for our own safety
10. Always disinfect surfaces with disinfectants such as bleach etc
11. Pull your shoes at the door before stepping into your houses(this will be a stand alone post for tomorrow)
12. Disinfect your clothes with disinfectants such as Lysol and co before stepping into your homes
These are few of the guidelines I practice so I would love to hear from you all what other preventive practices you engage in, in the comment section

@awhite,i tell you that we are also doing same but most especially the masking up, very uncomfortable I must say

What interesting times we are living in right now! In addition to the safety measures already outlined (social distancing, wearing masks, staying home as much as possible, disinfecting surfaces, etc.), we are also trying to eat foods that boost our immune system and try to stay as healthy as possible. It's a good rule of thumb anyway, but want to make sure we are prepared for any eventuality. One silver lining is that our house has never been cleaner! Thank you for sharing this information.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those important tips :)
